The National Spinal Injuries Centre

at Stoke Mandeville Hospital.

This image and the extras tell a story of a famous institution and it's founder  over a wide spread of some 80 years.

The Centre grew from the work of Professor Sir Ludwig Guttmann. Opened in 1944 at the request of the government.

More history in the extras.

The image is not very inspiring but the work the centre does has helped many many lives and the adjacent sports centre was the inspiration for the Paralympics Games.
