Banjolin

This is a Banjolin, a cross between a banjo and a mandolin. One of the members of Men in Sheds took it there to take apart and generally mess around with.  Luckily F spotted it and suggested borrowing it to ask someone that knows about instruments.

Last night we went to my usual monthly music session where there are several string players including one that plays banjo.  They all knew about banjolins and declared it a lovely instrument, it just needs a bit of cleaning up.  It's probably from the 1930s and hasn't been "messed with". It's even in it's original case - also in good condition.

I've done a little research, it's called Melody Junior and was made by George Houghton and Sons of Birmingham, then of London.  They seem to sell from about £100 - £150.

F took it to sheds this morning to give it back to it's owner.  I hope that it ends up with someone that will play and appreciate it. Before anyone suggests it, no I'm not interested in learning another instrument!

It was my usual busy Wednesday of belly dancing and Pilates.  I also made a cake for I's upcoming birthday.
