Not history yet
The fall in insect numbers this year has been very apparent, evidenced by those most colourful and noticeable of insects - butterflies. Seeing a butterfly in the garden is now an event. Seeing two different species within a short time is a cause for celebration.
The main image is a resting comma butterfly, the extra a remarkably hairy red admiral feeding on a rudbeckia flower.
Butterflies are struggling for a number of reasons it seems. No one would want them to become history.
