Phaon Crescent
This very colorful little beauty, maybe an inch or less from wing tip to wingtip, is a Phaon crescent butterfly, Phyciodes phaon. We spotted 20 or more flying around some low-lying native plants (TurkeyTangle Frogfruit and Spanish Needle) at Gainesville Regional Utilities' Chapman's Pond. They remind me of stained glass!
Do check the *extras for more shots of this colorful butterfly.
