Oak Eggar Moth Caterpillar
We've come across these caterpillars up on the moor when we've walked here before. This one wasn't very lively, though not yet dead. It was on the path as we walked above Little Fry-up Dale. There were lots of bumble bees busy harvesting heather pollen, though unfortunately my photos were a bit overexposed and not the best. I also spotted a few honey bees - a first for me this year.
We did another circular walk from the cottage this afternoon by climbing Ainthorpe Ridge, contouring around the northern edge of Little Fry-up Dale, and then taking the road towards Rosedale until we came to the bridlepath down to Botton Village. We missed the route as we got to the perimeter of the Botton estate and ended up having a bit of an adventure! Though thankfully we did finally manage to get into the estate and back onto recognisable footpaths. We then decided to stop off at the cafe in the village for a drink and ended up having a long and involved conversation with a young man who was into mountain biking. Botton Village is run by the Camphill Community for people with learning difficulties and other special needs. Finally, for the last couple of miles home we had sun and thankfully some breeze as we were feeling a little hot and tired by this time. We're cleaned up again now and ready to go out and find food.
