Stuff and Nonsense

Hen Harrier #71

Today we made use of our NT membership and went to Rufford Old Hall for a look around. It was quite interesting, but not a full day out, so on the way back we dropped in at WWT Martin Mere again.
It was quite busy in the Ron Barker hide but not a great deal of action and once again, no kingfisher :(
However, late in the afternoon we were thrilled to see a male Hen Harrier - the ghost of the moor. There aren't many of these birds around in our area any more as most (around 80%) of the UK breeding population are concentrated up in Scotland. Just a distant fly-by, but it was enough to get the chatter going in the hide with everyone being excited to see one.
Soon after, a Little Egret decided to eat it's dinner right in front of us (extra).
