Sally Mair - Loving life

By Sallymair

Down town!

So nice not to have to rush to get up this morning, first time in a long time.
After I was up and organised, I updated our church Kalendar of Remembrance which I discovered hasn't been done since 2022.
I upset someone a couple of weeks ago by not including their husband in the prayers on his first anniversary, I didn't want to do that again so combed all the sources I could think of to update the master. I printed it out and will put it in its folder tomorrow. I was glad I did this because there is somebody else's first anniversary of death, they'll now be included in the prayers tomorrow though, so that's ok. I hated upsetting someone as I did last time.
After lunch we met up with Colin's cousin and headed off from Modern Art Gallery One via the Water of Leith to Stockbridge. We chatted all the way, she's the same age as we are and as well as cousin is a friend and in my case former colleague, so we have plenty of people in common and lots to talk about.
The walkway was very busy, many organised tours but also lots of informal groups too. It clearly forms part of the "What to do in Edinburgh" chapter of guide books - along with, having your photo taken in Circus Lane. Not much fun for those who live there. People were forming queues to have their photo taken on the bridge at Well Court.
We carried on down to Stockbridge and after a purchase less sortie into a couple of charity shops, we had coffee and a croissant in what will always be Maxis to me. That's where the map picture of Edinburgh was, I spotted it in the window as I was leaving. Apologies for the reflections, but I do agree with the sentiment.
We turned back and headed back up the river, emerging at Gallery Two so that we dodged the very steep Gallery One steps up from the river.
My blip has: a very handsome heron who didn't move over the hour and a half between our viewings of him; a very pretty large daisy which is much finer than an ox-eye, I'll need to investigate the variety; the Damside Weir above Dean Village and a flag above Gallery 2 which I've never noticed before.
I was tired when we got home and had a doze for an hour or so before dinner. I woke with a start and remembered I still had to write the intercessions for church tomorrow.
That done, as I had been reminded it was harvest and as somebody decided we weren't having a harvest lunch this year, who?, I made an apple cake after dinner that we can have at coffee time. It looks good, hopefully it is cooked through ok.
The weather is set to get colder next week. Shame, I've been enjoying the slightly warmer days.
Thanks for the good wishes for Isobel yesterday, she seems better now. Her big sister played in her first football match today. It should have been 7 a side, but in order to allow all the team members to play they agreed to play with substitutes on the pitch so it was 8 a side. What a lovely attitude - she had a great time!
