That Will Do!

Penicuik House

Penicuik Storehouse has a very useful refillery, where we can buy loose quantities of muesli base and oats and stuff like that. After the obligatory coffee (and for Mr Flum, a gigantic scone) we took a walk in the Penicuik House Estate.

When the sun broke through the clouds we could see some nice autumn colour, main photo from the terrace on the southwest face of the house.

Along the way we had views of various fungi (see extra - no idea what it is), one stump was covered in a range of types. Beeflies were feeding on Queen Anne's Lace (Caucus carota) with its red centre floret, and a red admiral butterfly, which sat still long enough for several photos, gradually closer and closer. This one seems to have had a piece of lower wing removed while closed as the resulting notches are mirror-images (se extra).

The early interesting sky, with a mix of cloud forms, resolved into heavy rain in the late afternoon, by which time we were home and dry.
