Field Trip

Today we spent most of the day up at Happy Jack with the Forest Service and the Wild Fire folks. You can see the brown haze in my blip that the smoke from the fires in Wyoming and over into Idaho are still blanketing our area. Behind me the forest starts and it's much more appealing than where the kids were dropped off.
The kids were divided into groups and did various things so basically I was just with one classroom and supporting one student, who did really well. We did have a dad of one of our students and he led us on fairly long hike. He's super tall and really walked at a good clip. I knew where we were since I've hike up here so much but I was wondering when we were going to turn around so we could eat lunch. Also, the idea of field trips is generally much better than the exhausting reality. 6th grade boys are not my choice for hiking companions....lol. But it's what is expected and no one was terrible.

That finished we went back, got on the bus and followed the fire fighters down a long, super, super washboardy road that really wasn't fit for a school bus. They took us to a prescribed burn area and gave a pretty cool talk to the kids about the benefits of fire and how they use it to fight wild fires and how prescribed burns work.
Then back to school for the last 20 minutes of the day. Whew!
No real great photos today. Most of the leaves have blown off up at Happy Jack. There were a few pockets of color here and there but I'm glad I got up to hike the last couple weekends.
