An eye to the future
I had my regular glaucoma check at the Ashford Hospital Eye Clinic today. The appointment was at 5.15pm and it was obvious I was the last of the day as there were no other patients around and I have never been dealt with so efficiently. An added bonus was I knew the consultant from way back when I used to run the Trust. I thought he had retired and he had - four years ago - but was continuing to do outpatient clinics. My pressures were steady and the advice was to continue to take the drops. However, the cataracts that have been brewing for a while are now nearing the point when they will need surgical remedy - basically, removing the lens in each eye and replacing them with new artificial ones calibrated to the correct strength. I'm not there yet, as they haven't reached the point where my vision is affected, but we'll see how things are in six months time when I have my next follow-up appointment. In the meantime I was handed this leaflet by way of advance reading although I guess I will be researching what is involved rather more fully in the months to come.
