Shinbashi-dori
No organised tour today so we set off on our own. Took the Karasuma line subway a couple of stops north. Keeping to the shady side of the street we headed east towards the Shimbashi area. Reputedly one of the prettiest streets in Kyoto it really only gets going in the evenings so it was very quiet this morning. Extra 1 shows a more typical street with one of the 'Kei' (kei-jidÅsha) cars that are very common. After a stop for lunch we retraced our steps and called in at Kahitsukan - Kyoto Museum of Contemporary Art which had an exhibition of photographs by Willy Ronis. On the way back through the downtown area we went into the Takashimaya department store to find a cafe. Interestingly we found something more like an airport lounge but with books to read and art to look at. You paid by the hour but had free food (snacks) and soft drinks/coffee (extra 2). Many thanks for the interest in yesterday's selection.
