Turning Leaves...

...and figs. We still have lots of figs. We're eating as many as we can, giving away a lot more and donate a lot to the birds, and still they keep coming....
They taste good warm off the tree but the fig appetizer/dessert of figs, feta and honey is also delicious. The leaves are beginning to turn and I suspect many more figs will be revealed as the leaves fall.

Thank you for all your kind words of support regarding our struggles with John's neurologist. I have to admit that I'm feeling better about him now that we've finally talked with him. An argument could be made for the fact that he was waiting for the results of all the tests to come in before he could put all the pieces in place, but waiting months for results isn't easy. He made it clear that if we had any questions we should write them down and he would answer them at our next visit in 6months' time. This seems strange advice for someone with compromised short term memory.

The good news is that Alzheimers and dementia have been ruled out, but damage to the hippocampus, caused by being hit in the head with a pitched baseball when he was in college, has resulted in short term memory loss. He went over the MRI images with us which was both interesting and revealing. And he did finally present us with the written report that went missing at the start of all this. Reading it, I could see exactly why the other tests were ordered for they gave a physical basis for its findings.

It is not necessarily progressive and the treatment seems to be for John to read aloud to somebody every day. Dana laughed and said that sounded like torture for both of us! But I don't suppose Spike will mind being read to...

We both had our Covid and flu shots this morning and are feeling fairly wiped out this afternoon, but not necessarily from the shots....

I'm pleased that Hurricane MIlton, though bad enough, was not as catastrophic as predicted. It astonishes me that frightening naturally occurring events like this are being made political. To me, they are a clear indication of climate change which should have been addressed a lot sooner than it is,  yet many Republicans are blaming the Democrats for controlling the weather, which is why hurricanes are  occurring in states with Republican governors.

If only we could control the weather we would surely cause it to rain on the horrible fires that have done so much damage in the Democratic California and elsewhere....
