Quod oculus meus videt

First Frost

After a clear night and the excitement of the aurora, it was our first frost of the autumn.  I went out early to check on the local deer herd.  While I did find a young stag with about 6 hinds in tow, I couldn't get near.  Instead I just liked how these flower heads had been encrusted with ice, with the warmth of foliage, bathed in first light  providing some warmth to the scene.  I confess I hadn't even noticed the spider's web until I uploaded the image.

The cars needed a good clean which took up most of the morning.  Then, after lunch we headed up to Castle Ring, an old Iron Age fort on Cannock Chase, where we checked out some of the local tracks.
