Winterproofing
After a fairly hard frost it seemed time to start preparing 'Arry the camper van for winter. This mainly involves removing as much water as possible from the living area and the pipes to the two taps.
The photo shows the main 100L water tank, normally hidden under the bed. The water is drained, the last bit sponged up, and then the whole tank wiped clean and dry. Nothing to freeze there!
The water pump is removed and is currently in the boiler room, drying out. Once it's dry I'll replace it in the tank, ready for next spring.
The hot water tank is drained.
I've blown through the pipes, pushing out a few drops of water from the pipes and the taps.
The taps are left open, half-way between hot and cold. That means as the few drops left in the pipes freeze and thaw there's no pressure so everything should survive. It's worked that way for the three winters we've owned the camper.
We can still go away in the van, but we'll be working from water containers and bottles, rather than the plumbed in system.
Earlier in the day we'd taken advantage of the sunny morning to sit outside. Great tits, chaffinches and field fares were flitting around feeding furiously after their frosty night. The great tits were feeding from the sunflower just a few feet away from us so we got a good view, as well as an earful of their chatter. See the extra.
