Blitzhund Working Dog Class Trials
So, I first need to acknowledge that the last time I took this many photos in a single day was one day in South Africa. I managed to get 3,500 images on 2 cards today. I am still going through them making the first cuts and since it is getting late, I'm just picking a shot at random to post today.
This gorgeous black German Shepard had been put in a Down/Stay while her owner walked all the way to the other end of the field. On the command, she kept up and raced to her owner. I had placed myself in the best spot in terms of sun, made some adjustments to ISO and EC, set my frame rate at 20 per second and then I did the classic "spray and pray". Which basically means that you take so many shots that surely some will be keepers! Actually, So far, I'm quite pleased with a lot of my shots. The panning shots, like this one, worked very well for the most part. And I got some spectacular jump shots.
To my utter surprise, the sponsoring club handed me some cash at the end of the day. I tried to turn it down, but they were insistent. So that was nice!
I also got a chance to take a few shots of an African Porcupine. Yep, you read that right. The owner of the facility where the trials were held (also the facility where Jax spends a day a week) took in this animal when the woman who kept her passed away. The woman owned a wildlife sanctuary and the porcupine had been surrendered to her. It was one of her dying wishes that the porky not get shuffled off to someplace where she wouldn't be loved. So, she is a permanent resident of the Green Dog Inn, with all appropriate licensing. It will not be her last time in front of my camera.
So, I'm calling today a wrap and heading to bed. You know what I will be doing tomorrow...
