Mansfield Traquair

The Mansfield Traquair Centre is open on the second Sunday of each month. Leaving Flora with our daughter Cameraman and I set off for Edinburgh this morning.

After coffee on Leith Walk we walked to the house where my maternal grandfather lived at the 1911 census. His mother, then a widow, her five surviving children and her father (my great, great grandfather) lived here in Dudley Gardens (see extra). I knocked on the door and the current owner invited us in but the poor woman was still in her dressing gown so we declined.

Also in the extra is the plaque for North Leith Parish Church, now merged with the South Leith congregation. My uncle recently came by some silverware from this church.

On to Mansfield Traquair. You can read about Phoebe Anna Traquair's murals here.  This one depicts Pentecost with Phoebe herself as Mary Magdalene. This was her only signature on her beautiful work in the church.  I love her artistry.

Phoebe and her husband are buried in Colinton Kirkyard. This is the church I attended as a child.
