Spike's Meadow
After the Morning Reading...something about immigration, I think, I decided my energy was sufficiently restored to take Spike up to his meadow. It rained enough yesterday to wet the ground and water the plants and we figured that it would also render the stickers in the meadow less lethal. The blue sky was reappearing and it was atypically humid but Spike doesn't notice details like that. Just one light rain also cut down on the dust and made everything sparkle (almost).
Since I always seem to be bringing up the rear, I entertained myself trying to capture Spike's rather unique tail (for a Springer) with a long white tassel on the end. No easy feat because it never stops moving. I made a collage of my not-so--great results and put it in extras.
We decided to carry on to Emerisa the garden center in the Laguna where we thought we might be able to find the elusive Achillea for our unfinished garden patch underneath the kitchen window. We arrived there to discover that they have already closed their retail operation for the season. We're I'm starting to think about looking for something else but Achillea is part of the overall plan, so we'll look a couple of other places before we give up.
Before we went home we stopped at the Western Farm Supply where John bought some kind of rodent control stuff. I'm not a fan of poison but the ground squirrels are tunneling everywhere and destroying everything. He promises me that any poison will be buried underground and unreachable by dogs and cats. We have a couple of very handsome cats that frequent our garden regularly. We'd love it if THEY caught some rodents but they don't seem so inclined....
By the time we got home from that little odyssey it was time for lunch. I read a story about tech entrepreneurs moving from the Golden State (California) to the Silver State (Nevada...specifically Las Vegas). I was fascinated sort of shocked to read that one such multi-millionaire had made his fortune on something called 'NeuroGum' a caffeine infused gum designed to improve mental sharpness. Really? Multi-millions of dollars worth? For something I’ve never heard of?
The afternoon has been mildly productive (at least as compared to the last few days) with John repairing irrigation leaks and looking for rodent burrows and me playing domestic goddess . Jim is in Las Vegas (maybe he'll meet the NeuroGum guy) for a few days and Dana is coming here for Sunday supper. I decided to make a grain bowl with the leftover salmon from Friday night partly because Jim would not consider a grain bowl dinner, but Dana and I will like it and John is getting pretty used to me taking the easy way out when it comes to dinner.
