Leycesteria formosa

One of the reasons I like this plant is because it reminds me of my dear, long deceased, Irish maternal grandpa, for its principal Latin name is just how he used to pronounce "Leicestershire".
A pretty, two metres tall, flowering shrub, it is also known as Purple Rain.
I prefer its English name of "Himalayan Honeysuckle", although yet another name for it is "Pheasant Bush" for reasons that are somewhat obscure.
I wonder if it suffers from an identity crisis?
Very vigorous and free-flowering the shrub fills a niche by our garden wall quite nicely, having responded well to being pruned back hard during the winter.
The flowers are complex and rather exotic. I can imagine it flourishing high on some Himalayan slope.
