Portugal Day 5
(I forgot Day 4)
Walked the promenade from Estoril to Cascais. Had a lovely swim (first extra) at this spot and I managed to snap a kiosk.
Lunch in Cascais. Very tasty. Did a wee painting as I waited for grub to arrive.
Overview of beach is second extra.
I decided to take a bus or train back to Estoril. I asked a lady at the station which was better. Train she said. So she took me by the arm to the turnstile, swiped her train pass and nudged me through the barrier. And I said that I must buy a ticket; what if an inspector came!! Don’t worry she said. There are never any inspectors on the train. Then off she went.
So I am sitting on the train due to leave in 12 minutes and guess what! The Inspector Calls. Yep. And I am sitting there all rosy cheeked with no ticket. ‘Madam you must disembark and come with me’. Mortified. So we both get off the train. He swipes into this official cubicle and we enter into a holding area and then he swipes to exit it to go to the commissary’s office (I’m watching too much Montalbano) and his card wouldn’t work. He swiped it up and down, backwards and forwards but nothing.
He had to ring his colleague to come and get us out. He got very flustered then and dropped his notebook. He started to apologise to me as he was embarrassed. I kept telling him it was ok and it was all grand. I was trying to calm him down.
Then he turned to me and said ‘Madame, I am sorry about this; I will give you a free 24 hour ticket and escort you to the train. So we turned around - me with a free ticket - and he very politely saw me to my seat that I had left 10 minutes previously; the whistle tooted, the train pulled off and everyone was happy.
Yes that was Day 5. Good, eh!

Apologies for my lack of comments and replies. I am too busy enjoying myself in Portugal. It really is a lovely place.
