Celtic Colours
A busy day on Cape Breton Island. After purchasing pastries and coffee at a great bakery in Cheticamp, we drove southeast to Artichat, where we will be staying for three nights. We stopped at the Alexander Graham Bell Center on the way and decided to not do the tour. It was crowded with folks from a cruise ship. We attended a community song and story telling session - a lot of fun. The gentleman pictured shared stories of his life on Cape Breton. On stage at this point, there was another story teller talking about his retiring and having a local quilter make a quilt of his many ties he had worn over the years. The story of the quilt was picked up by local and international news. Instead of getting rid of his ties, he began receiving them from all over the world.
The highlight of the day was an evening performance in D'escouse. Isabella Sampson, Rum Ragged, and Breabach performed. It is our third time hearing Breabach in person. The first was in 2014 in Dunedin, New Zealand, the second in 2015 at the Colonsay Festival in Scotland, and now in Canada. We will also be attending a Breabach concert next week near home in Cary, North Carolina.
