We Should Be Down In Hollywood
We have a busy week this week... tonight was was a visit to the O2 Academy in Edinburgh ( a local gig... woo) to see Wallows, one of Ms H's birthday presents from us and she brought her pal R, all 4 of us have been to a few gigs over the past 5 years. Ms H has been to see them twice before, both times in Glasgow and this time we decided to go since she plays their music in the car which we enjoy.
Of course the girls did their own thing and we settled for the back, with space and some cool air. But first, some IPA, a Guinness Zero, then a decent burger and chips, ooh fancy.
They played lots of songs we knew and sing/mumble to, some great indie pop songs, we enjoyed it.
But it was interesting, da kids seem to have lost some of the gig etiquette... of course phones were up in front of us lots of the time (ooh, terrible says the blipper). After each song there'd be whoops and a few claps, but it would end fairly quickly, so the atmosphere was highs and lows. Not many bands come to Edinburgh, are the missing the experience of edler youngers? I noted the same at a similarly themed gig in Glasgow a few months ago. I feel sorry for the youth today, they've got so much more to deal with than we did growing up, but I read an article this week about gig venues shutting up shop, bands playing less and more centralised locations to avoid losing money. Megabucks being made in the arenas and top acts, and music moguls, so it's great these kids are actually ccoming out and hopefully they'll learn what to do haha. But more importantly, when we met the girls afterwards, R commented on something similar and had clearly been thinking about it... the lost covid kids... did 2 years of no gigs break something.I hadn't thought about that and was pleased somone more than half my age had been thinking about it too... there's hope for us all yet :-)
Anyway, as I said, kewl toons boys!
