Bus Tour - Day 3

Hooray! I'm now at the 'top of Scotland' (Dunnet), having made it here from the 'bottom of Scotland' (Drummore), entirely by [free] bus travel :-))

And yet again today, all the transport - admittedly a mere 2 buses! - has gone very smoothly. The weather even cleared up as the day progressed :-)

My schedule looked something like this:

- breakfast, at my Inverness accommodation, before having a wander along to the bus station
- I even had some time to visit a nearby bookshop, once I'd double-checked bus departure times etc.
- then caught the StageCoach X99 bus up to Castletown, which is just East of Thurso
- had my pre-prepared, packed lunch at Castletown
- then caught the StageCoach 80 bus, for the short hop over to Dunnet; and checked into my accommodation
- had plenty of daylight left, so went for a lengthy walk back along Dunnet Beach, which was completely stunning and virtually deserted!
- then returned to the hotel for an evening meal, before getting everything ready for my trip South, to Edinburgh, tomorrow :-)

Still short of 'extras' so here is another collage of today's journey, which shows (top left first):

- snap of a 'non-electronic' departure board, inside Inverness Bus Station, where I caught the X99
- a snap, taken from inside the most impressive "Leakey's Book Shop", where I may have purchased some poetry ;-)
- the entry sign to Casletown, where I had lunch, and switched to the 80 local-bus service
- my accommodation for the evening: the 'Northern Sands Hotel'
- the entry sign to Dunnet, where the hotel is located
- and the hugely impressive Dunnet Beach, which I walked the length of, prior to dusk

A thoroughly enjoyable day, and just wonderful to end the Northern part of the trip on such a magnificent beach, and in fairly decent weather :-)

An evening meal awaits; then tomorrow I head back home to Edinburgh ... by bus, of course ;-)
