Final stretches
There has finally been a bit of discernible progress over the way in the last 10 days or so. This is a bit of an emergency blip and taken mainly for my purposes. And it was taken into the rain through a very murky window, so its photographic merits are zero.
I was a bit annoyed with the development over the way last night. I woke up in the middle of the night unable to work out why it was so light in the bedroom, despite our blackout curtains, which have made a tremendous difference for the last few years as a defence against daylight in summer and streetlights in winter. I looked through the curtains and it was apparent that there were what appeared to be spotlights on the building to the left of this photograph, on a roof terrace, which were pointing straight at our building. I found it quite disconcerting that there was so much light coming through the curtained windows and folded up the bottom of the curtain to try and minimise the amount of light getting in to the bedroom. It's maybe not the only reason I didn't sleep that well, but it was certainly a contributing factor.
I put a comment on our building what's app list in the morning, and the man in the 6th / 7th floor duplex, who is a bit of a busy body but very very effective in the context of the car crash that is this building, got on the phone to the builders' HQ before 9am and people on site were outside on the roof terrace sorting it out about 10 minutes later, redirecting the lights to face downwards. (K had himself found the lights to be a problem so was relieved that I raised it, proving that it wasn't just him being annoyed about it). K and the man at the builders HQ are checking in tomorrow to see whether or not it is still a problem, in which case they need to change the lights and perhaps put motion sensors on them. I guess that's why K is a successful businessman with a duplex penthouse flat and I run a law school.....and write books if I get the chance. Anyway, I was suitably grateful.
I was double booked with various jollifications this evening - an inaugural lecture for a close colleague and the installation of the new rector. In the end, I went to neither as my meetings didn't finish until 5.30pm by which time it was too late to head to either event, I had no interest in the after event receptions, and I was by then barely capable of stringing a coherent sentence together. So I came home. I have things to do here. I'm off on a (personal) trip tomorrow, destination soon to be revealed, but it is giving me a very early start so I need to get completely packed this evening, with all batteries fully charged. I'm just about there....
