Matka canyon

From our farm campsite we walked up onto the hills high above the Matka Canyon - five churches of varying size and condition on the route. Views down in to the canyon and out over the plains were fabulous.
We decided to take the path down in to the gorge. When I say ‘path’ .. it turned out to be a scrabble through bushes and tree as no one else seemed to have walked that route in a good while. The end result was worth it when we arrived at the Matka dam and lake.A very touristy area but we joined in and took a boat trip up the lake with a stop off at a cave to explore. Beautiful scenery and a relaxing trip after our hike!
We opted not to walk back up the mountain to our campsite - and took a taxi!
