Flower Friday

I’ve always loved the Goldenrod and today it takes center stage in the bouquet.

Also in Extras, we rode the Blue Ridge Parkway south into Virginia. North into North Carolina was closed due to the tropical storm damage a few weeks ago. It was pretty with so many mountains visible and some fall foliage but I think the northern views are a little more spectacular. It was a beautiful day and the scenery was very nice. I think I got my mountain fix for now. We also visited the Mabry Mill which was at one time home to a grist mill and lumber making operation in the early to mid 1900s.
As I said yesterday, The town we are staying was at one time home to Andy Griffith but though the show took place in a fictitious town called Mayberry, it was filmed in California and modeled on this town, Mt Airy, NC. Andy was the single dad sheriff of the town and Don Knots was the bumbling Deputy. We took a “squad car” tour and had a very animated guide who had lived his 73 years here. The show portrayed Andy as the calm, kind and wise man and it always had a good ending and a life lesson. It was a different time indeed.
