Above the Clouds Again …

… but not so early today thank goodness. We climbed Pico do Ruivo (extra) the highest peak in Madeira at 1,861m, not a huge achievement as it was an easy 90 minute walk from the car park. However the views were spectacular. I had to sit down and be still, just looking towards where we were yesterday (thanks for the many gifts by the way) above this vast sea of cloud (extra). The main photo taken from the summit, shows the devastating effect of the fires here earlier in the summer. Many high footpaths are still closed including a traverse from this peak to the one we were on to watch the sunrise yesterday. A big disappointment. 

Our swim today was in the sea water swimming pool at Porto da Cruz, a lovely little village on the NE coastline of the island. A night in to relax and eat less than we have been recently!
