Kingfisher delight
Hubby was at his monthly all day games session, so after sowing some seeds, potting on a few seedlings and picking a few tomatoes, I took myself off the WWT Martin Mere.
When I got there, it was super busy as it is the Northwest Bird Festival with all sort of activities and demonstrations going on. I'd forgotten all about it.
But I was more interested in staying until sundown as it was late night opening until 7pm. I wanted to see the Barn Owl and all the geese and Whooper swans.
I waited all afternoon at the Ron Barker hide with a hide full of other people and finally at about 5.30pm the barn owl came out, but was immediately chased away by some crows. The whole hide groaned with disappointment, but still we waited.
In the meantime there was action of a different sort on the other side of the hide. The Kingfisher had arrived for his first and only visit of the day - he sat on a branch for a little while, did two dives, caught one fish and took it around the corner to eat it. He looked gorgeous in the late afternoon sunshine and just had to be my blip today. I've put a collage of a few other visitors that I saw as a reminder of a lovely afternoon - Marsh Harrier, Tawny Owl, Barn Owl, Cattle Egret and Snow Goose.
