Stuff and Nonsense

Peckforton Castle

Our niece bought us all an afternoon tea at Peckforton Castle for Christmas last year and today was the day we all met up for it.
The morning was incredibly windy and rainy, but as you can see from the blip, it improved considerably and was a lovely afternoon.

Peckforton Castle was built between 1842 and 1851 for John Tollemache who had bought the land and wanted somewhere grand to live.
He was awarded a Lordship in recognition of his services to agriculture. He was married twice and fathered an impressive 25 sons and one daughter. The last member of the family left the castle in 1939 and since then it has been a safe home for evacuee children during WW2, a place for medieval games, a business conference centre, and more recently a hotel and wedding venue. In fact there was a wedding going on whilst we were there.
