A day of jewels - and plenty junk
We had a fun evening with the daughters though we all might have over-indulged, what with a White Lady cocktail, wine with dinner which we all enjoyed and then champagne. (They were especially pleased I’d made the Delia halloumi starter).
So it was a later start than intended with the jewellery sharing. It got quite emotional at times and a bit of hysteria set in at others. They wanted the story behind various pieces and their rational behind choices was interesting. I have a few valuable pieces but they weren’t the first choices. I was surprised when #3 daughter’s first choice was a gold bangle given to me by Mr C on my 21st birthday and her second was a tiny pearl on a chain I’d been given by a cousin on the same occasion. When there were still precious metal pieces left she chose a bit of polished wood, originally a pendant with a leather thong, long broken, I got aged 19 in Canada, where I had a nannying job. She wanted it because in the 90s she’d borrow it so it had sentimental value. She also chose a single silver CND earring (the other is lost) because it reminded her of us going on marches when she was a child, and a broken watch belonging to a great-granny. #2 liked the ivory earrings from 1960s Hong Kong, definitely not PC now and a marcasite brooch in the letter B given by an aunt when I was 5, and a St Christopher Mr C’s mother gave me. The other asked about a St Christopher ( which I gave Mr C when he left for Hong Kong and I had to stay behind at uni) because Chris had found it years after he’d lost it. It was in our allotment which she’d taken over. Sadly he hasn’t a clue where it is now. They also made sure each had a granny’s engagement ring and the pieces I had worn at their weddings. The blip is a selection of strange non-valuable or broken bits they chose early on. If I say they had 52 picks each and we hadn’t finished you get the idea of the randomness of it all. (It’s quite windy so a message came to say Ella and Nathaniel would be coming home early from Scout camp so #3 daughter had to leave earlier than expected to pick them up. )
Mr C had gone to collect the DPD package armed with my phone and all the numbers and messages sent by them but they hadn’t included the QR code needed to release the package. However after a bit of sucking of teeth from the assistant he got the package.
I’m ready for a bit of Strictly catching up.
