Trafalgar Night
219 years ago this coming Monday Nelson led the British Fleet against the combined French and Spanish fleets off Cape Trafalgar and won a resounding victory that sadly cost him his life
It would not be until the Battle of Jutland, over a century later, that Britains naval supremacy would again be challenged.
So tonight, after over 300 e-mails, numerous menu changes, even more seating plan amendments, one broken on arrival decanter and a whole lot of printing we were ready to go again.
We had no after dinner speaker, instead we had ‘narrative speakers’, nine Branch Members and a guest gave short speeches at intervals throughout the meal dealing with Nelson and the Battle.
The Branch President gave the final speech which led to the toast; The Immortal Memory” taken with Pussers Rum.
The food was delicious, large portions, great company lots to drink. Larry the ex Royal Engineer won the bottle of rum and insisted it was opened and consumed on the night …. Good man!
Such a good evening, pity it’s a year until the next one but only four weeks until the Parachute Regiment Dinner.
