WHITBY

Well I made it to Whitby today.  We decided to catch the first steamer this morning at 9.20 - except it turned out to be a vintage diesel.  A bit of a downer but never mind.

We got to Whitby and it was heaving.  I'd research to find out about half term, unfortunately it seems to be split a lot more now, good for families,  not so good for those of us wanting a quiet October breenge!!  Aaah well never mind.

We went for coffee then for a walk along one of the piers.  It was so windy we didn't stay long.  then walked over the bridge to find a jet shop - but didn't buy as they were horrendously expensive.  I found the 199 steps but it was so busy not worth taking a photo at all.  Also I'm still not really that well so wouldn't have the puff to go up to the Abbey.

We then went to Trencher's Fish and Chip restaurat for lunch. Had to queue but not for too long.  So glad I ordered the small portion, because it wasn't small at all.  It was also very warm in there.  So with the cold windy pier, then hot  restaurant, then sticking my head out of the steam train on the way back I'm going to regret and the cold will probably get worse - but hey I just had to do it!!!!

We then caught the train back.  It was sooooo busy.  It felt like herding cattle to get on the train, but we did manage to get seats and it was a steamer so all good.

We got back about 4.00pm so  it was a long day for us. Now exhausted and not feeling great so going to have a fairly quiet day tomorrow - not sure what to do yet, it depends on how I am.  At least I've made it to Whitby and on a steam train so I'm so pleased about that.

I've done a triptych from some of the photos I took today.  I thought the view of The Abbey should have the black & white treatment and almost rubbed out those people in the shot, but thought they actually added to it.  Can you see The Cormorant posing nicely for me on the piers shot!!!

I would like to go back to Whitby sometime but will choose a much much quieter time.  I won't bother with Robin Hood's Bay or Scarborough this visit either due to the crowds but it's good to have an excuse to come back.

It was a lovely day, despite still not being too well but sooo exhausting.  Great to be back in the cottage and not  having to worry about having to go for dinner anywhere - we will just have a tea time type thing here.

I  will catch up when I can. Do take care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
