Autumn leaves
These leaves have fallen from the acer outside Smithers’ study window, and mixed in with them are the odd oak and ash leaves from our garden and some large London plane leaves from a tree in the nearby road.
We feel very privileged to have all these lovely trees, not only to look at, but also to give us shade and dappled light at the height of summer. They still look beautiful in the winter months too, after all the leaves have been shed, but clearing all the small twigs and branches, leaves and acorns which fall for weeks on end throughout the autumn onto our lawn is a mammoth task. We are so fortunate to have the wonderful Steve, our gardener, who deals with it all for us; I don’t know what we’d do without him.
