In My Life . . . The Beatles
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever, not for better
Some have gone and some remain . . .
A good day of clearing out and now I am knackered. The blip is the side of a building that has heritage protection and is being sold with the property. We have always called it the brick shed but it is the first purpose built cool store for pip fruit in Canterbury. Built in 1880 in could store 3000 crates of fruit. It is constructed of double brick and came through the earthquakes well. 18 acres of the farm were planted in pip fruit and in1899 they were the first Government sponsored shipment of fruit to England. In 1910 my late brother in laws grandfather bought the farm and until this year there was always some kind of market gardening happening. Whoever buys the place must keep the shed standing.
Some of you asked if I was sad but no I must have processed the deaths of my sister and brother in law and now the future of this land is in motion and will be what it will be.
P.S My neice is sorting photos and has found this one one of my daughter sitting in a trailer of vegetables harvested on this property.
