Limerick City
A big couple of days in Limerick City. I invited Finola to come with me and off we went with wells, stained glass and a talk on our agenda - me doing the business. We were in and out of the car - me delighted with finding a well I had misidentified about 6 years ago, and this time we found it and even more exciting, the landowner's son came to check us out and gave us the full information.
Trying to park in the city was a nightmare - give me tractors and random sheep any day - but it was achieved and our hotel was comfy, We were picked up by Caroline and whisked off to the Mary Immaculate College - an unexpectedly funky and rather marvellous place where we were confronted with a very jazzy and hi tech lecture room - the only snag was we had to wait for the man who had the password to the technology and he rocked up about 5 minutes before kick off. Anyway the screen was large and the presentation looked good, the audience was very receptive and kind and all went well!
In the morning we had an enormous and delicious breakfast then went for a quick walk around Limerick. It was looking amazing - it lies right on the River Shannon which was so still with some wonderful reflections - in the distance we could see St John’s Castle and on the other side of the river the tall building is a hotel. Churches were explored. We even had to sit through the end of a Mass and tried not to giggle for as as soon as it finished an army of women silently leapt up and dusted and wiped and polished everything. We had the full interrogation.
A long drive home, heightened with yet more churches. An action-packed couple of days!
