Caisteal Maol
It is also known as Castle Moil, Castle Maol, Dun Akyn, Dunakin Castle, Dun Haakon and Castle Dunakin! It was probably built by the Norse during the 9th century, as part of their attempt to control the coast of western Scotland. The Chief of Clan Mackinnon married a Norwegian princess, known to history as 'Saucy Mary', whose dowry lands included Caisteal Maol. This brought the area into Mackinnon hands. Here ends todays history lesson ;-)
We drove the whole length of Kintail and back today, first driving up to the head of the Glen to Cluannie where we had a coffee in the local Larder Bakehouse. The autumn colours and scenery in the glen were amazing.
We then drove back down, past Eilean Donan Castle to Kyleakin which is on the island side of the Skye Bridge.
By chance there was a turf zone situated at Caisteal Moal which gave Sal her daily exercise as part of short walk to capture it was steep.
Got back to base mid-afternoon, had a bite to eat and relaxed. Sometimes is good to have a short day.
