High Drama Unfolds....
Not the best shot in the series I took, but in the absence of editing software, the one that best shows the story...
As I walked back to the car, I casually thought: "That's a precarious place to build a nest" I could see a couple of tiny red beaks peeping above the parapet.
The parent Moorhen seemed rather agitated and imagine my horror when I saw a third chick being tumbled over and over in the water at the base of the waterfall.
Suddenly, it was spat out by the turbulence and started to drift downstream, but by luck it struck out and made it to the bottom of the duck ramp. There it sat, bedraggled, waterlogged, motionless for a good few minutes.
Then it stood up, shook itself and teetered up the ramp. when half way up, the other parent appeared and nest sitting duties were swapped, the new parent on the nest was oblivious to the unfolding drama, and the other rushed off to feed, forgetting about the tiny chick.
The chick, climbed up the side of the nest and surprised it's parent with a loud 'cheep' The parent accepted it back in the nest, where hopefully, it will live to fight another day!
The 'Eat well for £20 per week' continues. Today has been a day of eating the fruit that is going 'over' including avocado, (with yes, more chicken for lunch) the last of the strawberries and a squidgy nectarine.
For this evening I have baked an aubergine with olive oil and curry spices, it will become a bit like 'Brinjal Bhaji' - but better!! (Onion, tomato, garlic, spices, aubergine) Served with nan bread (from store cupboard)
