Life is like a river

Puffin dinner

I was born and grew up in Vestmannaeyjar/Westman Islands, which is a small island community south of the main land (on an island called Heimaey).
My father would usually catch puffins during the summer and this has been a tradition among the locals for hundreds or thousands of years on the islands. Sometimes the meat is boiled fresh on the bone (like here) and sometimes it's smoked or even dry cured.
The taste and texture is unique and since I'm used to eating it - as is my mother who is also born and bred in Vestmannaeyjar - it is nice to have it for dinner occasionally. These puffins were caught in the north of the country, but still delish!

Gordon Ramsay tried it, see videos on YouTube
