River of Flowers

Thursday: Inula Seedheads

I woke up far too early this morning because I had slept well :-)
I spent an hour or so reading.
Opening the bedroom curtains around 7:20am much of the sky over the sea was shades of pink and gold … and the seagulls, hundreds if not thousands of them, were rising from the beach in groups of a few dozen and this continued for a good five minutes! I opened the window to hear their calls to each other.
This makes me so happy because I’ve seen seagull numbers decline, I’ve lived in our home for almost 50 years and watched the subtle changes in the weather and the wildlife.
When we first came here there were only 2 houses after ours … then a huge field of grass which the local children would play football, they would call for a very young MrD to go and have a “kick about” with them :-)

Whilst I was washing the breakfast dishes I saw the first goldfinch standing on a dead Inula flower feeding on the seeds, the pollinators love the flowers too, such a useful plant

Late morning an egret flew over, a bird of prey caught one of the collared doves - I chased it down the garden and I think the dove got away. There were a few bees around too.

Fish and Chips for tea.

Loads of love and hugs to all my family / Cariad Mawr
