Another failed date with Luke Jerram:)
Several weeks ago my friend M and I decided to go to Bridgwater to see Luke Jerram’s installation in the docks called Fallen Moon. We booked our train tickets and everything. Well, storm Ashley destroyed the inflated illuminated model of the moon last week. But as we had train tickets we still went.
Above is an illustration of what it looked like pre-storm, plus my blip of what it looks like now:)
Neither of us had been to Bridgwater before - it’s about I hr south-west from Bristol by train. I would say it’s economically depressed - the town centre looks a bit sad, and there’s a lot of social challenges too I think. It’s a shame the moon deflated, because there were over 10,000 visitors going to see it in the first couple of weeks. Which I’m sure was helpful for local businesses.
People who look at my journal regularly will be amused to hear our train back was delayed ‘due to a police incident’ That’s 3 out of 4 attempts at train travel this month. Happily (?) we learned from the guard later it was ‘anti social behaviour in the Bridgwater area’ rather than a person taking their own life.
