Burren

It wasn’t as sunny today and as we travelled through the Burren from Doolin there was virtually no wind as we passed Lough Bunny. This meant good reflections of where we had walked yesterday and a good blip. We then drove to Clonmacnoise ruined monastery for a good look round and from there to the Corlea Iron Age Roadway. A section of the road was found when extracting peat for a nearby power station. Luckily the guy in charge recognised its importance and a thorough archaeological survey found a 1 kilometre trackway made of 3.5 metre long Oak planks. It is dated to 147 or 148 BCE and sank soon after construction which preserved the wood quite well. The visitor centre has an 18 metre long section on display in a room that has a carefully controlled temperature and humidity. This is my extra.
