The final straw.....
Another busy one today.
A Hereford x cow on calving when I went round feeding this morning. By the time I'd done everything and headed next door to do all wee brothers cattle too, she had calved and it was in sucking.
There was a wind and some sun at lunch time ,so headed down to the back of the village to bale up the straw I turned on Wednesday. There were still some wet lumps in the rows, but it's only going to be fit for bedding straw now so it was getting baled regardless. And all of a sudden that's harvest finished. It's been a long drawn out affair, very stressful, and not the best yields, but that's farming for you. All my problems are things I can't control ,weather , politics, costs of fuel and inputs. The list goes on.....
Back home and an afternoon spent taking bales out to feed various lots of cattle in their fields.
Littlemiss came with me to do the rounds again tonight. Another one of the cows had calved, but she was a wee bit protective,so left her alone. Hopefully the calf will get up and suck.
Good job I baled that straw as it's now raining.......
