All systems go...
A dry day with a breeze. Shortage of staff again, but we got there in the end.
I set the grain dryer going at 6.30 and left it going.
Went round all my cows and there was a saler x cow roaming about thinking of calving. She was roaming about at tea time last night as well,so got Ali to come and give me a hand to bring her in to a shed. Left her to see what happens.
Then back to rally a neighbour's cow out from in beside my cows and back to where she belongs. She was a wee bit excited, but we got there in the end.
The silage team are here to chop and cart the second cut grass that was mowed yesterday. Despite the council closing the main road through Gorebridge ,and trailers having to make a major detour to get here,by 7.30 pm they had cleared the 120 acres .
The council closed the same road during the summer when we were doing first cut.
Don't know what I've done to upset them !
I spent the day rowing up ,then baling the field of straw behind the steading . Doing it the old fashioned way, into wee square bales.
By the time it got dark tonight it was all baled, and I'd loaded all the bales onto 3 trailers which are now all safely parked in sheds.
So not a bad days work for it being nearly the end of October. I had been thinking the weather would never give us a chance over the last month. I don't think I've been as lucky for a long time.
Might go and buy a lottery ticket for Saturday ...... .
