Sir Edmund

We travelled to Mt Cook Village today after 80cm of snow fell in 24 hours, finishing last evening.   Even in winter there there is not often snow lying around the village.  But today it was a winter wonderland in spring!

Main photo is the memorial statue of New Zealand's famous mountaineer Sir Edmund Hillary, gazing up at Aoraki/Mt Cook from the village.

In extras, other scenes from around the village, including the old Empress Hut, built in 1953, previously residing on a rocky outcrop at 2500m on the Upper Hooker Glacier.  In 1994 it was brought down to the village. Normally visitors can inspect the inside.

Also in extras, lots of snow surrounding the Aoraki/Mt Cook School.

The motorbike boys were visiting too!
