Rumpled Waxwing
Usually Cedar Waxwings are so sleek and immaculate --- except at this time of year when they are molting and can look quite rumpled. I took this quite late in the afternoon and the light was lovely. There were loads of robins coming and going from the bird baths and I could hear the high, thin calls of waxwings, so I waited quietly hoping some would drop down - this was my reward. My best guess is that this is a hatch-year juvenile - there is no hint of red on the wing tips which usually signifies a young bird.
The Girls and I had a great day today, starting with an egg/spinach/goat cheese casserole that I made for breakfast along with fresh fruit and toast. Then we played some more dominoes and just enjoyed each other's company. All too soon, they had to leave - Kura to return to the City and Peg to upstate New York. The "other" candidate was holding a big rally at Madison Square Garden in NYC so Kura hit traffic going back into the City - fortunately, she was able to drop off the rental car and get to her apartment before the crowds really built. NYC is not particularly friendly to The Donald so I am somewhat surprised that he was doing a rally there, but whatever. No minds will be changed at this point.
Jax has gone out of his way to be particularly entertaining this weekend - he loves having people here. When Kura sat on the sofa this morning, he immediately draped himself across her lap for cuddles. If he was capable of purring, I'm sure he would have been doing so.
