Nuts; everyone has gone nuts about the Royal Family, or the 'Royal Bub' as the Oz PM put it this morning. A cute little 'baba' though, which has been a great opportunity for the Media to bask in the glory of 'Royalmania'.

On the other hand (Republican) it does reinforce patriarchal control of society (3 generations of only Male heirs), it does reinforce the inequalities of the English class system, it does take us back to wanting to become part of a 'Downton Abbey' society. It just depends whether you end up - either 'upstairs' or 'downstairs' !

So - Royalist or Republican? This is a fascinating reflection on English values, culture and society today. Are we really going forwards, or backwards? Is it all a big distraction from much more important things going on at home, and, internationally?

Thankfully, all the 'Hullabaloo' will be over by the weekend, and the English Proletariat's attentions will focus on much more important things, like the English Premiership, a new series of Strictly, and whether Wayne Rooney will leave Manchester United. Watch the media and the 'Commoners' switch their rather fickle attentions to whatever entertains them next .
