Return of 'the weather'
Today's Steps were gotten in by walking to the next place along the coast and back, said place being a once tiny fishing village now gotten a bit larger over the years with both ouristy & local development. My parents once had a couple of apartments there, hence also wanting to revisit for the 1st time in 13 years for a nosey.
Between Tavira & Cabanas de Tavira are pans for harvesting sea salt that are quite extensive with a quiet walking & cycling route through them. There are Flamingoes, not that we spotted any at close range today, although there were plenty of smaller wading birds.
The route brought us out on the road heading from Concieção down into Cabanas, and so we wound our way down past familiar places to a spot beneath their old balcony - Hugh's Garden - a corner of what was at the time bare ground that one of their neighbours carried out some guerilla gardening over a couple of years and that we were pleased to find thriving.
After a Galao (a local Latte!) and toastie for lunch, we started strolling along the front but then the heavens opened and none of us were dressed for the occasion. There were 'competing ideas' amongst two of the party as we picked our way uphill between trees & various shelters and I sort of 'had enough', suggesting (insisting) that ages were acted and how it 'might be a sensible idea to sit it out in that cafe over there' until the rain baited off, which it did after another welcome Galao & 45 minutes of relaxing in the dry!
Things more chipper again, we set off back, the rain having turned up the saturation on the colour of everything a few notches.
I think Wednesday will begin with sourcing some umbrellas because this may be a wet week which is not ideal for sunbathing, but okay for some touristing with means to keep the rain off.
