Memorials

Walking through the city centre, I noticed that the Covid memorial has become a focus for thoughts and memories about Liam Payne, the One Direction singer who died earlier in October.  There were some very heartfelt observations, handwritten, in among the flowers and photos.
It's the first time that I've seen this memorial being used spontaneously for anything other than references to those who died during the pandemic. It's a very beautiful sculpture, set in a city centre that's not looking at its best at the moment. So I found something heartening about the sight, something to counteract the mix of corporate blandness and austerity-related decline in the surroundings.
