Leaving Laredo
We left cool and wet Zaragoza this morning and drove to the north of Spain which is infamous for wet weather. To our surprise it was a gorgeous day and I wish I hadn’t packed away my swimsuit.
We were picking up stuff to take back to our family in Surrey and for us in Peebles. It’s almost certainly the last time I’ll be in the family flat as an offer has now been accepted. We had a late lunch in our friend Juanma’s bar and then went for a lovely walk along the beach before meeting him in another local bar to say goodbye.
We lost track of time and had a bit of a race to get to the ferry. I didn’t realise it was Halloween (not much of a thing in Spain) until we were on the boat and I saw all the Brittany Ferries staff dressed up.
So far so good. All pretty smooth aboard and not spookily scary but still a long way to go. It’s quite refreshing to be among the youngest passengers (most are in their 70s I would guess).
I’m using up all my quota of free WiFi tonight (I refuse to pay extra given how much we’ve already paid for the sailing and the cabin) so I’m going to have to go cold turkey/digital detox until we arrive in Portsmouth at about 9pm tomorrow evening. Will do me good as I’ve got several books to read. Hasta mañana.
