Oliveira Bimilenar de Tavira

Today was shall we say, very wet, and tomorrow will be wetter still. This afternoon at least came a break that we took advantage of to get out in the hire car.

First stop was the border town with Spain on the river Guardiana where the rain resumed, so we headed for the hills for a change of scenery. We passed through some pretty & tiny little villages, not to mention seeing some stop offs that would have offered vistas far & wide on a clearer day. I guess the main purpose was for youngest to shake off some cabin fever which the ride out mainly achieved.

Almost back at base I took a little diversion west of Tavira to find a 2000 year old Olive Tree that resides of all places amongst a small village of holiday bungalows built in the early 1980s. The obvious first thought about this may be to be horrified of the disrespect for building around such a survivor but upon reading up, it seems that the trees provenance was unknown until the tourist resort itself raised awareness of the old tree in its environs with the relevant authorities and it's approximate age confirmed.

Being in it's presence felt rather special and it would have been nice to spend an hour or so sat in its shade on a nicer day, just be be & to spend some time.
