Neepsend cherry trees

These two cherry trees are old favourites: one full size, one a dwarfed survivor of some long-ago pruning session (or perhaps a half-hearted attempt to kill it off).  In spring they're a mass of pink blossom, and now there's the last blaze of colour before the leaves finally fall.
The trees almost seem to curl around the corner of a factory that may now be disused, I think. The house behind them is still in use, though the random bits of rubbish in the backyard make me wonder whether it's just being used as storage by someone.
This is a corner of Neepsend/Shalesmoor that is still in limbo: old manufacturing businesses long gone, the tide of redevelopment yet to arrive. Nearby Kelham Island is full of stylish apartments and trendy bars. I'm not sure that any of that will ever reach Neepsend; there would really need to be a massive upturn in the local economy.
So each season I take a look at the trees, relieved each time - so far - to find that no one has chopped them down yet.
